Institute of Cartopology

Designing with the environment in mind

The Challenge
Cultural initiatives that operate at the intersection of art, landscape and community require a coherent visual presence and clear communication strategy. The challenge within the collaboration between Studio Forward and the Institute of Cartopology was to translate complex narratives around place, mapping and food culture into accessible visual and educational formats. The aim was to strengthen visibility while preserving the experimental and community driven character of the institute.

The Concept
Over the past year, Studio Forward has supported Remy and Marlies of the Institute of Cartopology through an ongoing graphic design and communication partnership. This includes social media strategy and content creation, the design of banners and posters, website design and photography.

In addition to visual communication, the collaboration extends into educational programming. This year, a workshop centred around cooking with nettles was developed in connection with the Tasting Change project. The workshop translates research into hands on experience, encouraging participants to make more informed and conscious decisions within their daily food practices.

The Outcome
The collaboration demonstrates how graphic design, storytelling and education can function as an integrated strategy rather than separate disciplines. By aligning visual identity, content production and participatory workshops, Studio Forward contributes to a consistent and thoughtful public presence for the Institute of Cartopology. The result is a strengthened connection between audience, food and place, supported through both design and direct engagement.
